Real-time construction worker posture analysis for ergonomics training
نویسندگان
چکیده
Construction activities performed by workers are usually repetitive and physically demanding. Execution of such tasks in awkward postures can strain their body parts and can result in fatigue, injuries or in severe cases permanent disabilities. The number of reported cases every year is in the thousands. Among these injuries, back injuries and Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorder (WMSD) are the most common injuries. Such injuries occur primarily with workers involved in carrying heavy loads, kneeling, contact stress, vibration, extreme temperatures, twisting hands or wrists, stretching to work overhead or other awkward positions while performing job activities. These injuries typically occur due to awkward work posture while carrying out tasks such as lifting loads (back and knee injuries) and working overhead (neck and shoulder injuries).

Smart monitoring of worker posture in an office environment
Doing computer work with an incorrect posture can lead to musculoskeletal disorders. Training workers with ergonomics advice decreases these risks. In this paper a posture recognition system, CAPRIO, is proposed, using pressure sensors and context information to generate tailored ergonomics advice. Using pressure sensors alone leads to too many false positives in detecting wrong postures. Using...
متن کاملA Low Power Accelerometer Used to Improve Posture
A monitoring system for training people to improve posture has been developed. The prototype system consists of one accelerometer, a lowpowered 16-bit microcontroller, RAM, real time clock and battery. This prototype device was used to investigate its feasibility of using accelerometers to monitor human posture. A subject who had kyphosis (round back) for many years wore the system for two days...
